EID MUBARAK

Assalamualaikum warahmatulahi wabarakatu :)
بِسْــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِالرَّحْمَنِ اارَّحِيم

Pray you are well. I know that Eid is probably over around the globe but I thought I would still this story I came accross while preparing for Eid celebrations. I pray that you ha dan amazinng Eid and that Allah grants you with the opportunity of greeting the blessed month of Ramadan again next year.

The Caliph and the New Clothes
The little boy came running to his mother crying with a request. “Jarir and Mughiz have both got new clothes for Eid. Can I have some new clothes as well?” The mother picked him up and wiped his tears.

Their mother, Fatima bint Abdul Malik(RA), was no ordinary woman. Her father, grandfather and each of her four brothers were at one time or ...another Caliph and leader of the Muslim Ummah.

In fact, her own husband was the present Caliph, Umar ibn Abdul Aziz(RA) –who ruled the world’s largest empire that stretched from the Atlantic to the Indian oceans. She promised him that she would check with his father to see if he could have new clothes for Eid.

When Umar ibn Abdul Aziz returned home, his wife related her sons request to him. The Caliph had a pained look in his eyes. “Fatima, you know how much I value my children, but all the money I have is in front of you”, he said motioning towards the sparsely furnished hut.

Though a Caliph, Umar took care to live honestly and did much to ensure justice. Fatima agreed with her husband, but she said that maybe it would be possible to buy very cheap clothes for him and he would just be happy with something new to wear. The tears have left satins on his cheeks. Finally, the Caliph, saddened by the plight, agreed and wrote a letter to his treasurer requesting that his pay be advanced a month early so that he could buy his child something to wear on Eid.

But the honest and pious Caliph had an equally honest treasurer who wrote a letter in reply to the Caliph. The Caliph read the letter with tears flowing from his eyes: “Amir Ul-Mumineen, I have great respect for you and I trust and obey you completely. However, if you could guarantee to me that you will live through the next month and do your service to the people (which will entitle you to your pay) then the money can be advanced to you.

If you cannot give the assurance of your life, then how can the treasury pay you and why are you taking the rights of the poor, orphans and widows onto your shoulders?”

Caliph Umar ibn Abdul Aziz realised his mistake. Fatima bint Abdul Malik, washed the old clothes. The day of Eid arrived and the whole area of Damascus was buzzing with joy and celebration with people clad in their new attires.

Caliph Umar ibn Abdul Aziz also set out for the Eid Prayer holding the hand of his son, both father and son wearing their clean old clothing. The young boy’s face shone brightly, as he walked alongside his father, convinced that the eternal pleasure and comforts of Jannah(Paradise) are by far superior to the comforts of this temporary world.

One has to wonder if they were made from the same dust as us. Once we (Muslims) were kings on this Earth, but it wasn’t because we were large in number that we were respected. It wasn’t because we were powerful that we were victorious. It wasn’t because we were successful that we were admired. It wasn’t because our women were beautiful that they were treated with honour and dignity. It wasn’t because we were intelligent that our example was emulated. It was all due to the faith of Islam. Sometimes, it’s worthwhile reflecting on how far we’ve fallen so we know how high we need to climb. A Very Special Eid Mubarak!

بِسْــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِالرَّحْمَنِ اارَّحِيم
With college exams over I have decided to start working on my blog again. It's been a long time since I uploaded and saying that alhumdulillah I have learnt so much over the past few months. I aim to share with you all that I have learnt in order to give you a better understanding of Islam inshaAllah. Today I have decided to write about the pressure that Muslim women face in western society...

Of the Islamic rules (ahkam) that has faced the most vehement attack and extreme misunderstanding in recent times both Muslim and non-Muslims has been the status, treatment and role of women as defined by the Islamic viewpoint.

Western history has presented the ongoing struggle for women to gain 'equality'. Now what he define is equal is a whole other post but we must know that with the advent of Islam, women have been secured these rights that western women fight for over 1200 years ago. Some examples:
  • Right to Vote
  • Right to full Education
  • Right to be involved in the Political Process
  • Right to work, Profression and Equality
  • Right of proper Wage
  • Right to Own Property
  • Rght to choose in marriage
  • Daughter as a blessing, wife a necessary partner and mother an honour
Some evidences:
A man came to the Prophet (pbuh) and said, 'Oh Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship?' The Prophet (pbuh) said: Your mother. The man said, 'Then who?' The Prophet (pbuh) said: Then your mother. The man further asked, 'Then who?' The Prophet (pbuh) said: Then your mother. The man asked again, 'Then who?' The Prophet (pbuh) said: Then your father. - (Bukhari, Muslim)

"The most perfect in faith amongst believers is he who is best and kindest to his wife." (Tirmidhi, Ibn Maja)

A woman cane to Prophet (pbuh) of Islam stated her father had given her in marriage against her wishes to his nephew. So the Prophet (pbuh) gave her the choice of repudiating the marriage. (Bukhari)

"A Muslim who has two daughters whom he treats well when they accompany him or when he accompanies them is admitted to Paradise." (Bukhari, Ibn Maja)

Islam does not favour one gender and does not benchmark man against woman, nor woman against man. In fact man remains the benchmark only in the west which is why women are always experiences equality problems. Islam recognises that men and women are not the same, they have many physical and mental differences which is why it assigns men and women responsibilies that helps stability to society - removing the anxieties and social problems that are widespread in western societies. Thus, Allah says:

"Oh mankind! We have created you from a male and female, and made you into nations and tribes, so that you may know each other" - [TMW Al-Hujarat: 13]

"And among His signs is this, that He created for you wives among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. [TMQ Ar-Rum: 21]

How can Muslims say that God definitely exists?

Assalamualaikum warahmatulahi wabarakatu :)
بِسْــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِالرَّحْمَنِ اارَّحِيم

I've decided to do this post due to a big problem in the muslim ummah. Alhumdulillah many of us are born into muslim families, however this sometimes means that we blindly follow. We need a concrete basis in order to practise Islam corectly. This means that our belief in Allah SWT and the word of the Qur'an needs to be solid so that we will follow Allah's word with no doubt. Many people look to what Allah SWT has ordered us to do as burdens and rules placed upon us, however if we truly believe in Allah SWT we will have no doubt or hesitance when following the sunnah and it will be no trouble to us inshaAllah. This post is just to outline why we should believe in one God and the proof that He exists.

As Muslims we refer to the Qur’an for guidance which encourages us to think, reflect and investigate. “Behold! In the creation of the heaven and the earth, and the alteration of night and day, these are indeed signs for men of understanding.” (Qur’an chapter 3, verse 190)

This includes reflecting upon and reasoning whether or not God exists. It encourages us to study and examine anything and everything in the Universe – from the smallest sub-atomic particle to solar systems; from the complexity of an insect to the seemingly unexciting such as the clouds and the rain. This allows us to reason that everything in the universe has a cause.

If this was not true then it would mean that the Universe had no beginning, no start point or no origin; it would be infinite (endless).  The famous mathematician David Hilbert stated that “The infinite is nowhere to be found in reality. It neither exists in nature nor provides a genuine basis for rational thought.” So, infinity is a theoretical (imaginary) idea that we cannot sense in the real world. Those who apply it as a characteristic of things in the Universe have departed from reason and are unreasonable.

We can sense everything but in different ways. However they all share certain qualities: they are limited, finite and dependant on other that themselves. The earth may be very large, but it still has shape, mass and volume that are of limited size. The same can be said of all planets and indeed stars solar systems and galaxies. All are limited and all, without exception, are a part of a system of natural regulations from which they cannot escape.

The nature of all these finite (limited) things is that they are dependant on other things. They are neither self-sustaining nor independent. For example the water cycle is dependant on the sun, which is dependant on the gravitational laws and the energy produced by nuclear fusion, and so on. Men – and all creatures – have needs that require satisfaction in order to survive. Nothing is self-subsistent. So things exist, but do not have the power of self-existence, nor can they control when they die, change to become something else, or end their existence.

If everything in the Universe, which is made up of lots of limited parts, has a start point and is dependant upon other things, then what is everything dependant upon for its existence? The proposed “Big Bang” would have been lead by something. What is something? Another universe? If so, then what was before that? The chain would continue until a true “beginning” was found.

So the beginning could only be caused by something else – a creator. But, if that creator shared the same properties as the Universe – being limited and dependant – then that creator would also require a creator, as this is the case with every limited thing. So the Creator, which originated everything, must be different – uncaused or eternal, unlimited and independent. This Creator is what we call God, or Allah SWT.
I hope this has made it clear of why we believe in Allah SWT. Please forgive me if I have misinterpreted anything or have not done justice to do the topic inshaAllah. Please feel free to email me with any questions. JazakAllah khair for reading.

Our Role Models...

Assalamualaikum warahmatulahi wabarakatu :)
بِسْــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِالرَّحْمَنِ اارَّحِيم

I am extremely sorry about my absence in updating my blog. Being in my last year of college sadly means double the work with university applications. I've also been on work experience and after a week at 3 different hospitals I've seen so much blood, 2 operations and many painful procedures! One thing that emphasised in my head with relation to this experience: after seeing and dealing with the complex human body how do some doctors still not believe in a creator :( subhanAllah I fail to understand (just a little snippet of my experience)... But Alhumdulillah that's done and now I have found some time to do a short post :)..

I really wanted to share this, it certainly helps me when in times of need. We have been blessed with the best role models.. and it really helps to remember them in your day to day lives. Looking to them when we want to perfect our actions as a muslim will surely mean that we are living the way Allah SWT has told us to as the way they did inshaAllah. It is very easy in this day and age to take celebrities as our role models, but take time to analyse their actions because the broader image won't show happiness and contentment.. These qualities comes from Islam..This is very short but hope it helps.. xoxo

When you’re hurt by people who share the same blood as you, then just remember Yusuf (AS), who was betrayed by his own brothers.

If you find your parents opposing you, remember Ibrahim (AS), whose father led him to the fire.

If you’re stuck with a problem where there’s no way out, remember Yunus (AS), stuck in the belly of a whale.

If you’re ill & your body cries with pain, remember Ayoob (AS) ... who was more ill than you.

When someone slanders you, remember Ai’sha (RA) who was slandered throughout the city.

When you’re lonely, recall Aadam (AS) who was created alone.

When you can’t see any logic around you, think of Nuh (AS) who built an ark without questioning.

If you are mocked by your own relatives then think of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Allah (SWT) put these Prophets to trial, so that later generations may learn a lesson of patience & perseverance.

May Allah SWT give us perspective & understanding. Aameen.

When you ask Allah (SWT) for something, then patiently wait for His reply. He will give when the time is right, and only that which is Good for you. If He does not answer a specific prayer, He has greater plans for you. Learn to trust Him, for indeed Allah (SWT) is the best of planners!

Where Are The Muslim Worlds?

Assalamualaikum warahmatulahi wabarakatu :)
بِسْــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِالرَّحْمَنِ اارَّحِيم

This post today inshaAllah will be based on the massacre that's is going on in Burma. Burma has a population of 75 million and 0.7% of those are Muslim. These innocent Muslims are being wiped out just because of their faith. The ruthless killings carried out by Burmese Buddhists started on 3rd June 2012 when 11 innocent muslims were brought down from a bus to be slaughtered. Since then homes are being burnt down and muslim men, women and children are being burnt alive. SubhanAllah if this doesn't bring a tear to your eye I don't know what will.

Some reading this now, it may be the first time you've heard of this absurd massacre. Why? Because the media is silent, the united nations are silent and most sad of all so are the Muslim countries. :( Bangladesh borders have turned away the sufferers seeking for refuge. They don't deserve this harsh treatment just because they chose to practice the most beautiful religion and way of life. So I ask from you, stand up and raise awareness, make du'aa and give chairty if you can. They are our brothers and sisters, part of our ummah, so let's protect them inshaAllah.

I have linked a video, please watch it as it will help you to understand further the extent of the suffering. Also there is an upcoming demonstration at the Bangladesh emabassy in London. The aim of the picket is to encourage the border of Bangladesh to be opened and help those fleeing persecution. Please see the poster and try your best if you are able to attend. Today you are able to smile, make a difference so that they can also smile inshaAllah... xoxo

Basket Of Water

Assalamualaikum warahmatulahi wabarakatu :)
بِسْــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِالرَّحْمَنِ اارَّحِيم

I came accross this beautiful story and it just really clearly outlined how powerful the Qur'an is. For those that do not understand arabic we may ask ourselves at times, why do we read the Qur'an if we do not understand it? The answer is presented in this short story. Although we should aim to try and read the Qur'an's translation so that it's message is clearer to us I am sure that regardless of this, reading the Qur'an would still be of great benefit inshaAllah. Enjoy this amazing read, it will explain to you the importance of reading the Holy Qur'an :D xoxo

An old American Muslim lived on a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his Qur'an. His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.

One day the grandson asked, “Grandpa! I try to read the Quran just like you but I don’t understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Qur’an do?”

The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, “Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water.”

The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, “You’ll have to move a little faster next time,” and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.

The old man said, “I don’t want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You’re just not trying hard enough,” and he went out the door to watch the boy try again.

At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty. Out of breath, he said, “See Grandpa, it’s useless!”

“So you think it is useless?” The old man said, “Look at the basket.”
The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out.

“Son, that’s what happens when you read the Qur’an. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of Allah in our lives.”

So you see dear friends, nothing goes waste when done for the sake of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala). Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) is at work all the time in our lives, we just have to trust Him! He is watching our every move and hearing us all the time! So be patient and remember Him always.

This is the Holy month of Ramadan. Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) bestowed His mercy in this month. It is this month in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed. In this month, the devils are chained. So let us perfect our Ibaadah and spend more time reading Qur’an and doing Zikr and Dua’s inshaAllah.

Muslim Women

Salaam sisters,

So I have finally decided to do this post I’ve been banging on about because recently I’ve been to a few more talks and learnt more, which I hope to share. Let’s begin…

Many people seem to point out that women is Islam are oppressed and have no rights just because they are Muslim females. I couldn’t disagree more with this belief and I will share with you why.

What do you see when you put on the television? How are women represented? This society oppresses women, NOT Islam. The media are constantly portraying that women are only valuable for their looks. This is oppression. Women are used for beauty only as it seems and it’s become ridiculous that women are even now being used to sell such things as chewing gum. Not only are these beautiful women unreal, they have a brain. The media edits and changes what women look like so therefore we aim to achieve a look that is in fact unachievable. The first thing a female is usually judged on is the way she looks. Even myself, I’ve been to many interviews and the first thing I realise is that the interviewer is glancing at my hijab. I then feel upset because my looks do not represent who I am. I am a proud Muslim and I have a brain that should be judged not the way I look.

I’m sure every girl feels ‘ugly’ sometimes, but remember the way you look is not something you can control. Allah has created you the best way he could and you are beautiful in every way. This society does not know the meaning on the beauty of women. You don’t have to be size 0, have the perfect facial structure, and wear the nicest clothes. Women fall in depression and become ill while trying to achieve what is seen as ‘beautiful’ by the media. This, my lovelies is not beauty, this is totally insignificant. 5% of young girls in the UK are anorexic and most because they want to look good. This is harm to their health and is not necessary. I cannot stress enough how wrong the view of women is in society.

Of course nothing is ever totally negative. We are females, it’s in out nature to want to look good, but the importance we give to it is up to us. Please sisters do not feel like you are not beautiful because Wallahi you are!

Islam gives women all the rights we could possibly want. People believe we as Muslim women are oppressed but this is ever so untrue. Islam allows us to work if we wish to, gives us rights as a daughter, wife and a role model in Islam. The greatest teachers in the time of the sahabas were female. We have a brain, we have a personality and we are more than just a face and body. Allah encourages us to portray our intelligence and to represent Islam as a rightful Muslim woman. People believe that Muslim women are particularly oppressed by their husband and that women are allowed to be beaten in Islam. This is untrue, in the Qur’an it says that if the husband is unhappy with his wife’s doing he must give her many warnings and if she continues to do the bad deed then only is he allowed to tap her. Allah loves us women!!!!

I’ll finish up with 2 true beautiful sayings…
“If everyone knew the true status of a Muslim woman in Islam, even the men would want to be women”

"When she is a DAUGHTER, she opens a door of jannah for her father,
When she is a WIFE, she completes hald of the Deen of her husband,
When she is a MOTHER, jannah lies under her feet"

MashAllah

I hope this had benefitted you inShaaAllah and I am sorry if I have offended anyone or said anything incorrect. May Allah increase my knowledge so that I can benefit my sisters in Islam… Salaams, making du’aa for you all xoxo
